Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one victories have been earned on hard surfaces
A resurgent Medvedev won his initial championship for nearly 30 months with a win over Corentin Moutet in the competition final.
The athlete, a ex- number one, has endured a challenging season, managing just a single victory at the big events and experiencing a meltdown at the US Open.
Medvedev's inconsistency on the tennis tour - and difficulties with his service game in specific - resulted in him dropping out of the elite rankings and ultimately splitting with long-time trainer Gilles Cervara.
Currently collaborating with Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, he has steadily improved in the past month - culminating in a hard-fought competitive triumph over opponent Corentin Moutet.
This marks Medvedev's maiden championship since the 2023 Rome Masters and maiden on a hard surface since spring of 2023.
The win also signifies Medvedev has secured 21 championships at 21 different competitions.
"It's the first time I'm at a tournament with my both daughters together, so to get a championship is particularly special," said tennis professional Medvedev.
"This title is in honour of my second daughter Victoria, because the maiden victory I got when my older daughter her name was born was for her."
Medvedev, the 2021 US Open champion, had failed in his last six championship matches, including in Halle earlier this year.
Medvedev's retrieving play style and regular emotional displays on court had led some to wonder if his skill to compete at the top level was finished.
However the 29-year-old has altered his approach in the past month, attempting to approach the net and play aggressively, backed up by an better serving game.
Medvedev fought back from a disadvantage in the first set against the difficult opponent, taking four of the last five exchanges to go ahead.
Both players swapped break points in the middle set before Moutet, striving for his first tour championship, seized the initiative to force a final set.
He rescued 4 initial chances in a tight third set before Medvedev secured a break to fifteen to secure the win.
Suitably, the winner clinched victory with a point at the net area, with Moutet failing to handle a return after over two and a half hours.
